Northwest
Northwest Portland begins along the Willamette River, traveling first through Portland’s Chinatown, then through the trendy and artsy Pearl District, then on through downtown. It continues Northwesterly through various residential and industrial neighborhoods. A range of streets in Northwest Portland are named alphabetically, from Ankeny (one block South of Burnside) north toYeon.

Get a feel for Northwest Portland by learning about a few neighborhoods:

Forest Park/ Northwest Heights are “new” Portland neighborhoods, considering most of the homes have been built since the 1990’s. Forest Park is built along the west side ridge of Portland’s west hills and offers some fabulous westerly views including the Coast Range and sunsets. Residents live here to take advantage of the short commute both to downtown Portland and Beaverton-based businesses. Homes are larger than the older Portland neighborhoods and styles range from contemporary to traditional in both townhomes and single family detached homes.  Not to be missed is a visit to Forest Park – 5,000 acres of lush and tranquil Northwest forest. The 14th largest city park in the United States, Forest Park has miles of hiking, biking and equestrian trails.

The Linnton neighborhood is a small community located along the Willamette River, just five miles from downtown Portland. The neighborhood can feel a bit isolated, as it is sandwiched between Forest Park and the river, but those who live there relish the serenity.   Homes are found up windy, steep hills and many enjoy panoramic river views. You won’t find much in the way of amenities in Linnton, but it is an easy commute to Portland and a short trip over the St. Johns Bridge to grocery stores and restaurants.
Residents are as diverse as the housing. Most choose this neighborhood because of its proximity to Portland and its peaceful setting. The northern entrance to Forest Park Trails can be found here in Linnton.
